As the second largest city in New England, Worcester boasts some of Massachusetts’s most robust Biomanufacturing and Biomedical facilities. Located approximately 40 miles west of Boston, Worcester ranks #3 in number of biopharma companies in Massachusetts and is home to UMass Medical School in Worcester, which ranks #2 in NIH Funded non-profits in 2013.
 
Join us as we do a riding tour through Worcester featuring the region’s top hospitals, science parks and research labs. The tour will depart the Seaport Convention Center at 10:15 am for an hour ride to Worcester where the group will receive a briefing on the strengths of the region. The tour will begin with a riding tour of cluster UMass Medical School and Teaching Hospital, UMass Medicine Science Park, and Open for Business Biomanufacturing Park. From there, the tour will stop at AbbVie Bioresearch to receive a briefing and tour of their 1,000 employee Biomanufacturing operations. AbbVie discovered and produces Humira for treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis which is the largest grossing drug in the world at $16B a year. Tour will then re-board the bus and travel to the adjacent Gateway Park to tour WPI’s Biomanufacturing Education and Training Center as well as Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives, which is the oldest and most successful Life and Health Science Business Incubator in the state.
 
The Worcester Tour will feature guest speakers from the Worcester Chamber of Commerce, the Biomanufacturing Education and Training Center (BETC), AbbVie, and more to engage with attendees on inquiries on the array of our Biomanufacturing activities as well as discuss plans for the future. The tour will drop off at the Convention Center by 5:00pm. We look forward to showcasing the dynamic spirit of innovation across the Worcester region.
 
Tours will pick up and drop off at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Tour cost: $35.00.
 
Tour check-in opens at 9:00am in Room 210A. Tour attendees must pick up their BIO Convention Badge before seeking tour check-in. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your tour's scheduled depature. The cancellation date to receive a full refund of payment for tours is April 27. After this point, refunds will not be issued. All name changes or substitutions for tour attendees must be requested by May 18.
